Anserfone By Graves was founded in 1949 by Odie Graves. Having completed a tour with the Navy in the Pacific during World War II, he returned to Memphis and founded on of Memphis' first answering services. He started with some telephones on shelves. As the business grew, he kept up with technology and put in small switchboards. The small switchboards then gave way to large switchboards. Then in the 70s as computers began to prove helpful in small businesses, Anserfone installed two Amtelco Video III systems which would show an Answer Phase (the sentence used to answer the call) on a monitor. Finally in the 80s, Anserfone started typing all messages into computers with Memphis' first TASCOM 870 electronic messaging system. Continuing growth required that Anserfone upgrade to a Cadcom 3600 in 1993 and move from its home of many years on Poplar Avenue. Most recently Anserfone upgraded to the very latest Startel 5700 in 1999 and tripled the size of the call center in 2001.
